Minimally-invasive Varicose Vein Surgery
At the Center for Vascular Medicine and Vein Surgery, all venous surgical interventions are performed using the most minimally-invasive procedures and the latest scientific research. Our center specializes in minimally-invasive varicose vein surgery using modern endovenous laser treatment and radiofrequency therapy.
Depending on the size and invasiveness of the intervention, the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia or short-term full sedation. Smaller interventions can be done on an outpatient basis; larger surgeries require a hospital stay.
Microsurgical procedures for the removal of varicose veins are of particular importance. These are performed under full sedation or local anesthesia. Depending on functional and cosmetic considerations, as well as the characteristics of the varicose veins, different treatment methods are available:
- Traditional Varicose Vein Surgery
The diseased veins are microsurgically removed via small incisions in the skin.
- Endovenous Laser Treatment/Radiofrequency Therapy
In endovenous treatment using the latest laser and radiofrequency technologies, varicose veins are welded shut from the inside with specialized catheters. This method provides excellent functional and cosmetic results.
In every case, a precise diagnosis must be established through color duplex sonography. Depending on the stage of venous insufficiency, the appropriate treatment option can then be determined in the course of an extensive medical consultation.
Modern treatment of varicose veins can be summarized by the following guidelines:
- Early treatment to avoid long-term consequences.
- Retention of functioning veins.
- Importance of aesthetics in surgery: small incisions!
- Combination of procedures: ablation – laser or radiofrequency, surgery (stripping), compression.
